FAQ
General InquiriesWhat is this?
This is a fanmade zine celebrating the original characters made for Dungeons and Dragons. It's set to include art, writing, and physical merchandise for purchase.Where will the money go?
Any profits we make, once printing and shipping have been paid for, will go to The Trevor Project. This was decided upon during the interest check!
Contributors and mods won't be paid, but will have the option of purchasing at-cost copies of the zine and merch. What is the timeline like?
You can check everything out by clicking the Timeline button on the home page!
The timeline will be updated as events pass. How will this work with the OGL?
As of 1/27/2023, Wizards of the Coast has scrapped plans for a new OGL - and the nature of this zine falls more in line with the Creative Commons. We are in the clear!Character SubmissionsDo I have to submit an OC to be a contributor? Do I have to create for somebody else's OC?
No, and no! Only submit OCs that you want other contributors to potentially use in their pieces. If you are a contributor and want to create for your own OC, you're more than welcome to!Can I submit a non-D&D character?
The zine is D&D-focused, but if your character could be easily shifted to use in D&D, you’re good to go! A Pathfinder character works well; a Monster of the Week character might be harder to adjust.I submitted a character, but wasn't accepted as a contributor. What happens next?
Every OC creator has the rights to their own character. You will be credited for your creations - for example:
Page 1 - Art by John Lastname. Character by Jane Doe.
If you have any concerns over how your character(s) is/are being handled, feel free to reach out!Other questionsDo you allow photorealistic art? Photoshop? AI art?
Photorealistic and Photoshop art are absolutely allowed! We respect the work that goes into both of these artforms.
However, we will not allow AI art.

Interest Check Results
A huge thank you to everybody who filled out the interest check! Your input is extremely valuable.
Now, the results from 162 votes!
What you want to see in the zine
You were all clear on wanting illustrations - 98.1% of you want to see art!
The next most popular choices were NPC ideas and short fiction and poetry, with 74.7% and 72.8% respectively.
A lot of you wanted to see cosplay and photography - 46.3% - but only 4 people wanted to contribute it! Because of this, we're choosing not to include cosplay and photography.
And 48.8% of you wanted to see pre-built player characters. Since NPCs were so much more popular, we'll be including those instead!A few other suggestions were made that will be passed on to contributors:
- Custom spells, monsters, and items
- Dialogue for the NPCs
- Short comics
- Campaign ideas
- Characters' stories through the course of a campaign
What you want to receive
As expected, the two most popular options were a physical zine and a PDF copy (90.1% and 76.5% respectively).
75.9% of you wanted to see a custom D20. We'll be hard at work at that one!
63% wanted stickers, and we will make stickers!
Charms and pins were neck-and-neck, ending with 53.1% and 50% of your interest. Merch artists will be able to choose which they want to do - we might get one or the other, or both!
45.7% want blank character sheets, so its future is up to the artists! You may see these again (maybe as a download?).
A poster lagged behind with 40.7% of the vote. You may see it again as a stretch goal!A few other suggestions were made that will be passed on to contributors:
- Clothing
- A notebook or notepad
- Bookmarks
- Enamel pins
- Washi tape
Charity
One suggestion for an international charity was made: Mermaids UK. Thank you for your input and for suggesting such a beautiful charity! The 3rd place choice goes to Community Justice Exchange, with 18.5% of the vote.
2nd place is National Abortion Fund at 25.9%.
First place, with a whopping 54.9%, goes to:
All proceeds after shipping and printing will go their way!
